Thanksgiving Starts Now: Our Baby Turkeys Have Arrived!

It may still feel like summer, but Thanksgiving is already underway here at Little Captain Creek Farm!

We've officially welcomed 130 baby turkey poults to the farm: 50 Heritage Breed turkeys and 80 Broad Breasted White turkeys. Over the next several months, we'll care for them as they grow into the centerpiece of many Thanksgiving tables, and we're excited to invite you to be part of that journey.

Because we raise a limited number of turkeys each year, Thanksgiving turkey reservations are now open!

Two Breeds, One Commitment to Quality

This year, you'll have the opportunity to choose between two turkey breeds:

• Heritage Breed Turkeys typically finish around 15 pounds.
• Broad Breasted White Turkeys typically finish around 20 pounds.

While they look quite different, both are raised with the same care and commitment here on our farm.

Our turkeys are pasture-raised, never receive vaccines, and are cared for daily from the time they arrive as tiny poults until they're ready for your family's Thanksgiving table.

No matter which breed you choose, you can feel confident you're receiving the same high-quality, thoughtfully raised turkey.

Why Choose One Over the Other?

The biggest differences between the two breeds are their size, appearance, and history.

Broad Breasted White turkeys are the classic Thanksgiving turkey that most families are familiar with. They're known for their larger size and broad breast, making them a great choice for bigger gatherings.

Heritage turkeys are a traditional breed known for their striking colors and beautiful feather patterns. They tend to be smaller and are often appreciated for preserving historic poultry genetics and showcasing the beauty of older turkey breeds.

It might be surprising what Farmer Steven’s favorite is.

"It's the Heritage birds," he says. "Not because they taste different, but because they're just beautiful. I love seeing all those colorful feathers out in the pasture."

More Personality Than You Might Expect

If you've never spent time around turkeys, you might be surprised to learn they're curious, entertaining birds with plenty of personality.

Watching them explore the pasture, interact with one another, and grow over the coming months is one of the highlights of the farming season.

They're a daily reminder that raising food well begins long before it reaches the table.

Reserve Early for Thanksgiving

Every Thanksgiving turkey begins as a tiny poult, and every year we raise a limited number for our customers.

If you'd like to serve a pasture-raised Little Captain Creek Farm turkey this Thanksgiving, we encourage you to reserve yours early. Once reservations are full, they're gone for the season.
